I don't get it. There is a huge world beyond vampires and werewolves, but inevitably, they seem to be the creatures of the night that capture and then sustain our attention. But if you look at the different definitions of 'paranormal', there are so many other things out there that should hold us mesmerized as well. Ghosts, hauntings, demons, monsters...the list goes on and on. Fairies, dragons and the like hold the dubious position of being able to fit into both fantasy and paranormal arenas, but I think most people associate them more with sci-fi.
But why?
Search Wikipedia (lol. I know. Not the most scientific resource, but hey, it's easy to get to.) for the definition of 'paranormal' and you get this: "Paranormal is a general term that describes unusual experiences that lack a scientific explanation, or phenomena alleged to be outside of science's current ability to explain or measure."
Notice the lack of mention that paranormal means alpha male with the capability of intensely loving you as easily as he could kill you. (Hello, werewolves and vampires out there! This means you.) So is that what this fascination with the paranormal means to you? Walking the razor's edge with a dangerous man who suppresses his very nature for the woman he loves? Or can you become as fascinated with other creatures not natural to our world?
You tell me.
