An American Army Sgt sationed in Germany shot and killed 5 fellow American soldiers (Known as Fragging) in a stress-clinic on Monday in Camp Liberty, Iraq. It was his second altercation of the day after being disarmed once already that day. This was the Sgt. 3rd tour in the Iraq war 15 month tour in the War torn area. According to the article HERE, a stress-clinic is where troops can go for help with the stresses of combat or personal issues. What surprised me was that this wasn't the only episode of this happening during this war. There have been several other incidents in the Iraq War of Fragging:
- Last September, Sgt. Joseph Bozicevich, 39, of Minneapolis was detained after allegedly killing two members of his unit south of Baghdad. The case remains under investigation.
- In April 2005, Army Sgt. Hasan Akbar was sentenced to death for killing two officers in Kuwait just before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
- In June 2005, an Army captain and lieutenant were killed when an anti-personnel mine detonated in the window of their room at the U.S. base in Tikrit. National Guard Staff Sgt. Alberto Martinez was acquitted in the blast.
- Spc. Chris Rolan, an Army medic, was sentenced to 33 years in prison in 2007 for killing a fellow soldier after a night of heavy drinking in Iraq.
- In 2008, Army Cpl. Timothy Ayers was sentenced to two years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the fatal 2007 shooting of his platoon sergeant in Iraq.
It's bad enough our Soldiers are dying at the hands of religous zealouts. But to die at the hands of our own who hide behind masks and paste on a smile when they're hurting inside instead of talking about whatever is it that think violence is the answer to whatever the question is that plagues us.
Soldiers Killing their fellow Soldiers is NOT okay. And when wars go on year after year after year, and seems like a hopeless cycle to the soldier and they that killing people is the only possible answer to their problems, then all we're doing is creating more monsters for our children to fight in the future.
