The Wonderful Waiting Game

I'm sure you're no stranger to waiting.

Waiting in line. On the phone. In the doctor's office. At the airport. For the bus.

Let's face it, waiting can be a pain in the ass. On one hand, I don't mind it too much. Waiting gives me a chance to reflect, take a break, sit on my butt and read a book. But, the other side of that coin is the anxiety that comes with waiting for something. I find it hard to relax. There are dozens of what ifs that run through my mind. I find myself checking email, status reports, and things constantly.

This publishing business, it's all about hurry up and wait. Most authors will tell you that. If you're not waiting on your next royalty statement, you're waiting to hear back about a book or from a critique partner or from a reviewer. Or...from your readers.

The only cure I've discovered is trying to forget I'm waiting. Moving forward. Writing something new. Talking with readers and other writers.

So, while I try to forget that I'm waiting, do me a favor and send my inbox some love. Maybe that'll take my mind off things. :)
